Designing digi Pack

In  this lesson I drew up a rough copy for our digi pack. Slight changes will be made to compliment our website and artist image. We like the look of vintage and abstract. Aswell as the song being called 'sunrise' we are also going to have out album named sunrise too, as Sunrise is the bands best selling single, and we think the band will find that they will have a higher publicity through this. The song sybolises hope and feminine independance.

Day 5 of editing

Today we had little adjustments and final improvements that needed to be made, a few contrasts and quicker cuts so that the performance went well with the song rythem.

Quicker cuts
Colour adjustments needed to be made.

Day 4 of editing

Overlapping footage and adding a dissolve made the clips run smoother
Coming to the final stages i was taking clips and layering them using the motion to add drama and effect.

Day 4 of editing

Obed and myself have done a few bits alone so i started on editing in photos that would appear on screen layering on top of eachother as if it was a collage. When filming we shot a scene where Charlie caught me.. i cut that really fine and layered them above eachother so that gradually you would see the build up to charlie catching me.
I made this on a different file and then imported it back on to our sequence.

Day 3 of editing

I started to realise that adding effects first would mean that every time I moved the clip I would have to render it over and over again. So i changed the render mode to Unlimited RT.

Motion allowed us to layer clips and arrange positioning

I used two transitions through out the entire music video. Additive Dissolve was used when clips were layered on top of each other as it has a diffuse effect when it transitions. Cross dissolved was used when two clips were next to each other.

I used the colour corrector wheel to give a Blue due to the clips and the increased mid-tones and decreased blacks.

Day 2 of editing

Today we took the opening scene and worked on how we wanted our music video to open grab peoples eye and keep them interested. our first scene is the cheating mas looking back on his mistake, we thought it would be a good idea to keep it blurry and dark to show a contrast to the rest of the video.
Brightness and contrast was used throughout to represent emotions
Image control helped to bring out the main focuses adding dark and light giving the audience a focus point.

RGB balance is what we used to add darkness and change the colours within the clips.

Day 1 editing

First of all I had to upload all the footage taken from the camera and export it on to the computer and into final cut. Then cut all the footage and sort through the parts we needed and parts that were unnessesary, putting them all into sections for example; projections, main part, bedroomscene etc.

Once all were in order we could embed our song and start to work out what clips we wanted where and cut them to match the music. as this was only the first day we didnt get through it all.

Photo edits

Due to our locations being unavailable we have had to consider utilising the green screen in the studio room. This meant we would have to experiment with lighting and see how much space we had to work with when it comes to photography and filming. Once we had set-up the room obed took pictures of me in a simple white cardigan and vintage style jeans to match the artist image. Obed then Imported images onto Final Cut and then added the 'chroma keyer' effect. we both realised that we had to play around with the colour bar and the make sure the edges weren't too feathered but at the same time got rid of all the green. we added effects such as bloom and then experimented with the 'Edges effect'.

Group Meeting

Major dilemma has come up.... we no longer can use the band however we still have permission to use the song 'sunrise'. We are currently disguising our options for the performance and will update as soon as we know.

Level we are currently at.

After going through our group blog we have come to realize that the blog was currently only at a level 3. We are hoping to get that to Level 4 by the deadline. We can accomplish this by putting in regular group meetings we've had. We must also post up any remaining research and planning tasks. We have finished the research into different bands/artists, music videos and also analyzed another artist and who they use different medias to promote themselves. We must make sure that we manage our time more precisly and keep within all deadlines that have been set. We are nor currently working on the planning aspect and should start to film soon.

Evaluating my work so far

I feel that my work so far is not in the level 4 band which would be getting me a A*-B, marks 16-20, i feel as if im working at a medium level 3, marks 13-14. As my research and planning is not totally complete and allot of the work is at a basic level however some is a higher standard. All of the work is clear however not all interesting and some extra work needs two be put in.

I will need to be putting in allot more work and effort in the next few weeks to gain higher marks and gain a level 4...

Initial Idea 3

From first listening to acquaintance myself and Obed's first initial thoughts were keeping the lead singer in focus and having the whole band playing on stage in a pub, we have interpreted the song to mean that the girl (our lead singer) has broken up with a boy not so long ago and as she is forgetting him and saying her 'farewells' she sees him with another girl..

We have decided if we were to make this our final idea we would, take the boy and the girl he is currently dating and get them first to meet, there plans are to go to a pub and have a drink, however they go into the pub, where he's ex girlfriend (lead singer is playing on stage) is currently watching over him directing all the lyrics towards her ex. We would make the audience realise that the lead singer and the boy have just broke up as at the beginning as he is waiting to meet the girl hes looking at a photo of himself and he's ex and rips the photo as the girl knocks the door, also the audience would know as we would show flashbacks, of the boy thinking about hes past and that it seems nothing compared to the date he is currently on. We then would show the boy has still not moved on because as he walks he's 'date' home she goes to kiss him but he just gives her a hug and walks off. the end image could be looking back at the photo in his house and piecing back the ripped photo.

However we would keep the lead singer to not know that he's not over her and maybe her end showing on the video would be after the song upset in the pub toilets and breaking down, and we could put and effect on the place that she is in to seem as if hr life's fading away, as she is so heart broken.

Locations...

Although this would not be the exact location we would like to find a location similar to this with the band in focus spot light on the singer, and tables, chairs and a bar to film the concept behind the video.

We would like a bedroom similar to this, where its not to over the top just a standard plain bedroom, with a bed, bed side table, window, lights, but not anything fancy.

Initial idea 2

We both really do like this song as we feel that our first ideas towards the song have got a better concept that we have thought of from the beginning, and we feel as if we can work on our ideas and make the music video to this the best taking ideas from our other initial ideas and adding them all  together to show a more watchable and enjoyable video.

From the lyrics we can see that the person whom she is referring to has done something wrong and she's tried to make them see however they do not except what they have done... so she leaves them, towards the end of the song it the decision of wether to take them back or not...

We have took this concept into our thoughts and have created an image of a man cheating on a woman  and he's so guilty that he ends up telling her... she then kicks him out her final decision is to leave him for good. You see her life fall to pieces and the man has gone back to the mistress.

Siren have already made a video to this track however we will not use this... the band will be playing in the location they have already used. we will have the other main location within the flat where the couple live. We will start with a sunrise and sun set to keep a theme and to show it all happened within one day.

Locations...

We are going to keep this location as we like the way it is over looking london.. we will see the sun rise here and set. we like the band playing here as it is unique to somewhere like a normal studio.

The other main part of the video where you will see the characters will be in a flat, where they have both lived there lives together and full of memories.

Initial idea 1

From listening to sail away, we gathered and thought that it was about a girl leaving her partner.

We thought of it starting entering the house after a big argument and everything is smashed and the house is a complete mess. The audience begins to realise whats happened as we project the fight onto the walls so that it tells the story as shes walking through the house. Towards the end of the video she packs her bags leaves and 'sails away'.

Main location is the house and the whole film would be narrative.

What genre?

We are going to go for a rock/ indie genre, we have been looking around for unsigned bands that come under this genre to use, looking through myspace and unsigned.com. However we are going for a band that we have links to called Siren as we would like the band to play within the video.

Looking at ideas

Me and Obed both are starting to look at ideas for songs, and what sort of things we will be putting in to the music video and beginning to write down ideas. We have decided to go for a performance and narrative video as both have there strong points so we will be switching from one to the other through the video...
Performance demonstrates your ability to lip and instrument synch, lighting, choreography, as well as coverage (angles & close ups) and beat editing, however this is difficult to do well, and requires time, planning, rehearsals and lots of footage (therefore editing time) to look professional. On the other hand, narrative demonstrates your ability to in tell a story with a concept based on the themes or mood of the song that you are then associating with the artists, but this can be hardest of all as it requires you to write in effect an entire short film, with characters, drama, meaning, plot development etc which last 3 mins plus with fast paced editing. (linear, non-linear etc). This puts pressure on your choice of a song to inspire a dramatic and interesting story.

How to shoot a music video

We decided to look into videos online to get an idea of the best way to shoot a music video. Throughout this clip shows the best ways in which to recored your own music video, so that you have enough footage to play around with and make sure your using your time wisely, so that when editing your not left with gaps and spare parts.

List of what to do:
- Master shot (beginning to end)
- Singles of each band player
- Close ups and mid shots of the whole song
- Fragment the video, i.e extreme close ups (drumsticks etc)
- Contextual shots, adding context (i.e car lights, sun, animals etc)

My first thoughts on the music video project

I am really excited to start working on this project, I feel its going to be allot of fun, however there is allot of deadlines to meet so being up to date is key.

My partner though out the project is Obed, we have started to discuss, themes and genres for the final video, through listening to different types of music on youtube and trying to visualise different videos to the ones already made in the industry, however making ours unique and original.
